I am a mostly self-taught artist. I had a drawing class while I was living in Germany in the early 90s, but much preferred experimenting on my own. I have dabbled in watercolors, oils, acrylic and colored pencil, but my favorite medium is pastels. My father painted, primitive style and my sister followed in his footsteps. My work however leans toward realism. I love hearing someone say…”I thought it was a photograph”.

My husband and I were truck drivers for a number of years and though I did attempt to switch to watercolors and colored pencil, it was just not possible to paint in that environment, too many bumpy roads, not enough light and even less time to spare for painting. In order to appease my appetite for creative works, I got into photography.(Check out my photography site Mary Robinson Photography) Which as it turns out was extremely helpful in my art also. I learned to see light and shadow in a different way and now have a much better understanding of composition.

So after a long absence I have started painting in pastels again. Please check out my new work under the Portfolio tab to view my latest paintings.

Thank you,
